Jean Houston is a renowned visionary, scholar, and one of the principal founders of the Human Potential Movement. Recognized as one of the world’s leading scholars in mythic and spiritual studies, Dr. Houston is the founder and principal teacher of the Mystery School, dedicated to teaching history, philosophy, psychology, anthropology, myth, archetypes, and the many dimensions of human potential.

Jean is a decedent of Sam Houston.

Jean's relative Sam Houston, corresponded and worked with my great grandfather, Isaac Van Zandt who he had appointed as charge d'affaires to the United States from 1842 to 1844.

Van Zandt also authored the Texas Homestead Act. As Charge d'affaires, Isaac was working to have The Republic of Texas admitted to the Union.


Jean Houston is also a prolific writer and the author of 26 books, including A Passion for the Possible, Search for the Beloved, Life Force, The Possible Human, Public Like a Frog, A Mythic Life: Learning to Live Our Greater Story, and Manual of the Peacemaker.
