Jean's relative Sam Houston, corresponded and worked with my great grandfather, Isaac Van Zandt who he had appointed as charge d'affaires to the United States from 1842 to 1844.
Van Zandt also authored the Texas Homestead Act. As Charge d'affaires, Isaac was working to have The Republic of Texas admitted to the Union.
